Two immigrant community leaders were detained by agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Burlington Friday afternoon, shortly after leaving the office of community organization Migrant Justice.

Enrique "Kike" Balcazar, 24, from Mexico, and Zully Palacios, 23, from Peru, are both advocates for human rights in the state of Vermont.  Mr. Balcazar recently served on Attorney General TJ Donovan's Immigration task force.

The arrest comes two days after ICE arrested another farmworker community member, Alex Carrillo, outside the Chittenden County Courthouse.  Migrant Justice had already begun to rally support for Mr. Carrillo’s release.  A petition launched Thursday evening has garnered over 1,300 signatures.

On Friday night, nearly 100 supporters gathered outside two ICE offices, calling for the release of Mr. Balcazar and Ms. Palacios.

Several news outlets have already reported on the arrest, including VPR, VT Digger, Seven Days.  A facebook event for the rally can be found here.
